The milk dilemma...

I think I haven´t drunk a glass of actual cow´s milk in about three years now.
However last week I had a pizza. It was delicious. :-)

About three years ago an alternative therapist gave me a strict diet regimen which included no dairy for a month.
As I love these kind of experiments and was curious to see the outcome, I followed the regimen strictly just as he had told me to.
To make a long story short, among other things I noticed a drastic change in my skin.
I started observing my food more, specifically my intake of dairy.
And I noticed that the intake was definitely related to the condition of my skin.
Something that I had been trying to understand for years trying and changing different skin cleansers and tonics all the time.

The thing is, it is not about what you put on your body, its about what you put IN your body.
The outside reflects the inside.

Now for me not eating dairy is a decision I made on a personal level after experimenting and drawing conclusions on how I feel and my body.

But I guess it´s good to share experiences and thoughts, and there are a lot of reasons to be critical about dairy even if your body is not manifesting some reaction towards it.
I´m not an extremist and I will not tell anyone to never eat any dairy again, nor do I, but I do think it is important to be critical and conscious about what goes into our bodies.

These are the things that I consider and make me wonder how good milk really is for us:

Usually the milk we buy in the supermarket has a shelf life of more than 6 months!.. If i think of ayurveda principles it means that this milk is as tamasic as it gets, and has just about no prana to feed the body. As far as I know, fresh cow´s milk doen´t last more than a few days!!!

There is also the discussion on how every mamal drinks milk from its mother op to the age that he can start digesting food by himself, or provide himself with food. Humans are the only ones that keep drinking milk into adulthood, and that is, not from their mother, but from another animals mother!

We are consuming an extreme amount of dairy every day! Is it normal to drink up to a liter a milk per day per person?? I wonder.
Just look at the dairy industry what it has become to keep up with the demand.... :-(

Now besides the fact that many people are considering alternatives to milk because of industry, or personal reasons, there are simply people who are lactose intolerant.

I am not lactose intolerant. I am not a vegan.

But i love variation. And I LOVE almondmilk. Personally i think it is much much more tasty than cow's milk. I haven't had a cup of fresh milk in ages though, but compared to the ultra pasteurized shite that they sell in the supermarket i prefer almond milk a hundred million times :-)

I do NOT buy my almond milk in the supermarket though, because for me it comes down to the same as the cow´s milk. Fresh almond milk only lasts a few days in the fridge. And lets not talk about the unneccesary ingredients they stuff in there!

But, a homemade almond milk made from freshly soaked almonds....YUM YUM.

Besides being extremely yummy almonds have a very high nutritional value also.
It contains calcium, magnesium, fiber, vitamin E, zinc, potassium, iron and folic acid. They also contain protein but as it is a plant, no cholesterol.
It contains fat obviously, YUM, but as far as I understand for every gram of fat, 1/15th of that is saturated fat and 14/15th part of it is monounsaturated fat... that is gooooood fat! :-)

So, drink almond milk!! At least if you are not going to stop drinking cow's milk include it into your diet to add some variation.

Almond milk is super easy to make! And there are endless posibilities! Chocolate milk, Fruit smoothies (this is something I will write about in the near future....why it is better to avoid fruit and diary combinations...), Cuppacinos, Golden milk (ayurvedic turmeric magic drink! :-)  and much more!

Here i leave you with a link to a recipe to get started making your almond milk :-)
